are these any fashion trends that you vowed to never take part in? up until a few years ago, that’s how i felt about the pairing of skirts/dresses with sneakers. growing up, i was never really a sneaker girl- and would often take the super girly route and pair these pieces with boots, sandals, or heels. now while all that is still good and fine, introducing sneakers into the lineup has been a game changer. you’re able to get style + comfort at the same time, and for me- that’s a win!

how to effortlessly style sneakers with dresses & skirts
keep it simple with white
a white pair of sneakers is a fashion staple that will come in so clutch when it comes to styling skirts & dresses. chances are you probably already own a pair, so go ahead and get your money's worth! They allow for more freedom when it comes to wearing prints or bold colors, and give you that perfect street style look without any clashing.
low socks or no socks
your sock choice (or lack thereof,) is important. i recommend that you wear low cut socks, or no socks at all when you’re styling your skirt/dress. oftentimes, socks can be distracting and take away from your overall look. If you do wear socks- in addition to them being low cut, i’d suggest a pair that either matches your shoes, or that are a neutral color. with low cut or no socks, your legs appear longer, & it’s the perfect season to show them off!
simplicity is key
as we shift into discussing the actual clothing, i’ve found that balancing out sneakers with a casual top is the best! whether you’re planning on wearing a slip dress, or an a-line skirt, your outfit can still be bomb with a simple top. some great options for this are a solid chunky sweater, a cotton v-neck, or a jean jacket. if you’re going for a more bold look- feel free to pair your skirt or dress with a graphic tee, or layer with an oversized blazer.
flaunt your look with a flowy piece
to spice up your look, pair your sneakers with a flowy piece! whether it’s a pleated midi, (which makes for great instagram boomerangs btw,) or a skater skirt, a flowy piece will help to dress your look up more. not only will you be comfortable af, you’ll be the ultimate cool girl.
let your accessories do the talking
since you’ll be dressed more casually on your feet, accessorizing is a great way to add to your look. hats are an accessory that instantly amplify your look- so that’s a great place to start. when it comes to jewelry, depending on the vibe that you’re going for - the possibilities are endless! you can keep things minimalistic with a simple chain necklace, or some gold studs. for a bolder look, try hoop earrings or a chunky necklace.
top sneaker recommendations
so now that we’ve talked about how to style- let’s end things off with some options! i'm bias when it comes to sneakers- as aside from workout sneaks, vans are my go-to for everything. i love how my pair (which is actually off-white,) goes with just about everything. it’s super flat, comfortable, & good for all day wear. below you’ll find some additional white sneaker recommendations to give you a starting point.
